Solar Energy Systems Seminar 30 January 2023

The Kocaeli Chamber of Commerce (KCC) organised the Solar Energy Systems Seminar to inform members and businesspeople.

KOU Technology Faculty, Energy Systems Engineering. Prof. Engin Özdemir attended the event which was organized and hosted by Murat Barış, a vice chairman of the KCC Board. The event drew a large number of businesspeople.

Speaking at the seminar, KOÜ Technology Faculty, Energy Systems Engineering. Prof. Engin Özdemir said, "We have to put the Solar Energy System on our agenda now."

In the seminar held in KOTO Burhan Kasım Assembly Hall; Information on the latest state of technology in electricity generation from solar energy, developments in the world and in Turkey, sustainability, carbon emissions, current legislation on solar energy investments, feasibility and system institutions were provided, and questions about investment practices were answered.

Prof. Özdemir said, “There is an energy revolution in the world. Global warming and environmental disasters compel the world to reduce carbon emissions and decarbonise. In simple terms, decarbonization means reducing or ideally eliminating greenhouse gas emissions (mainly carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and others) in the activities that run our global economy. In addition, energy prices have also increased a lot. By turning to renewable energy sources comes the reduction of carbon emissions and emissions.

The European Green Deal (EGD) is the EU’s response to the global climate emergency. It comprises a set of policies with the aim to transform the EU into a climate-neutral and resource-efficient economy by 2050.

The EGD covers all sectors of the economy: from agriculture to energy and from transport to construction. As such, the EGD includes key policies and measures such as the Farm to Fork Strategy and the New Circular Economy Action Plan.

The cost of generating electricity from the sun in 2010 was 15 cents per kilowatt hour. Fossil-source electricity was 8 cents. In 10 years, the prices of electricity generation from the sun have fallen unbelievably. It's almost under 10 Cent. Generating electricity from the sun is now cheaper. These are world numbers. But is it also cheaper than conventional sources? It is now 4 times cheaper because electricity prices have increased a lot. With the increase in electricity prices, solar energy prices remained very low.

Electricity consumption has increased tremendously in the last 10 years. We have reached 101 thousand megawatts. Will this upward trend continue? The answer is yes. Our country is industrializing, consumption is increasing. Where do we get this increase? Endless sustainable SPP. Clean, endless, still, silent, derelict. It has no owner. You can reach it from anywhere. It is equal to all countries. Flexible. You can install as many as you want. And now it's very cheap. We've seen the numbers. Now in our country, we produce the systems that will generate electricity from the sun ourselves. There are factories producing solar panels in many regions of Istanbul, Sakarya. Cell production is now done in our country. These are welcome developments. It is an important advantage in terms of making the work a little cheaper.
